MONTCLAIR, N.J. – A goal in the 76th minute was the difference as sixth-seeded William Paterson (13-5-1) suffered a 1-0 loss at third-seeded Montclair State (15-3-1) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Tournament first round Oct. 29.
Freshman forward Emily Beenders' unassisted strike at the 75:33 mark was the game winner. The Pioneers had their chances, including a run inside the box by freshman midfielder
Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) that was poked away by a defender with 26:54 left, and a
Darcy Perez (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) shot that hit the underside of the crossbar with less than 11 minutes to play.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made seven saves for WP, and sophomore Molly Barrow had one stop for the Red Hawks.
WP will wait until the week of Nov. 7 to learn its ECAC Tournament fate.
