Women’s Soccer Clinches NJAC Berth with 2-1 Overtime Senior Day Victory

Pioneers Defeat Visiting Rutgers-Camden

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (12-4-1, 4-4 NJAC) secured a spot in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory against Rutgers-Camden (4-9-2, 2-6 NJAC) on Senior Day Oct. 22.

The Pioneers threatened early when junior back Adrianna Oliveira (Union, N.J./Union) hit the crossbar from distance and senior midfielder Amanda Carmichael (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) knocked the rebound off the left post 10 minutes into the contest.

The Scarlet Raptors broke the scoreless deadlock in the 52nd minute when senior forward Catherine Fiore froze the keeper, took an extra dribble and scored to the empty net.

Freshman forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) pounced on a Scarlet Raptor turnover on the right wing and struck to the left side netting, tying the game at 1-1 at the 61:55 mark.

Senior midfielder Sidney Gabrich (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) was fouled just inside the right edge of the box less than three minutes into the overtime session, and freshman midfielder Lorraine Moffitt (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) drilled the penalty kick off the keeper's hands and into the left side of the frame for the game winner.

Sophomore goalkeeper Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made one save during the first 19:37 of the contest before being shown a red card for a foul outside of the box, and classmate Torii Zamorski (Linden, N.J./Union Catholic) notched four stops. Junior Katie Gurba made five saves for Rutgers-Camden.

Prior to the match, WP honored its seniors Julia Bos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park), Carmichael, Gabrich and Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo).

William Paterson will finish the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Rutgers-Newark at 7:30 p.m.
