EWING, N.J. – William Paterson (5-5, 0-1 NJAC) fell 7-0 at No. 11 The College of New Jersey (6-3, 1-0 NJAC) during both teams' New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey opener Oct. 1.
Senior back Lexi Smith started the scoring three minutes into the game when she received the ball off a corner play, dodged a defender and took a hard shot past the goalie.
Senior midfielder/forward Jaclyn Douglas made the score 2-0 off a rebound 15 minutes later, and in the 22nd minute, Smith added TCNJ's third goal on a penalty stroke.
The last goal of the first half came from senior midfielder/forward Danielle Andreula. Douglas passed from the left side of the cage to Andreula, who was standing in front of the goalie. She then redirected the ball into the right side of the goal.
Douglas tallied her second goal of the game during the opening minutes of the second half. Smith received the pass off a corner play and sent it to Douglas, who found the back of the cage.
Freshman Cayla Andrews popped a rebound away from a defender and up and over the goalie's head to make the score 6-0 at the 43:31 mark.
Douglas completed a hat trick with the last goal of the contest. Andrews crossed the ball to Douglas, who then spun and reverse swept it in during the 50th minute of play.
