Goal in Final Seconds Causes Women’s Soccer to Fall, 2-1

Pioneers Suffer Loss to Ramapo in Double Overtime

WAYNE, N.J. – A goal during the final seconds of the second overtime period caused the William Paterson women's soccer team (2-4-2, 0-1-1 NJAC) to suffer a 2-1 loss against visiting Ramapo (6-1-1, 1-0-1 NJAC) Sept. 26.

The Roadrunners seized a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when senior back Nicole Ninomiya sprang senior forward Alexa Ragusa on a breakaway, and Ragusa chipped the keeper for the match's opening goal.

Freshman forward Alondra Diaz (Paterson, N.J./Morris Hills) provided the equalizer at the 31:05 mark, finishing senior midfielder Gina Cowdrick's (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) cross from the left side into the back of the left corner of the frame.

Ragusa scored the game winner with 33 seconds left when her shot from the top of the box hit the left post and ricocheted into the net.

Sophomore Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made seven saves for the Pioneers, and sophomore Jessica Cusick had two stops for Ramapo.

William Paterson will host No. 25/22 Montclair State Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7:00 p.m.
