Video Highlights WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder
Rachel Rivell (Mickleton, N.J./Kingsway Regional) scored in the 74th minute as the William Paterson women's soccer team (0-0-1) started its 2015 campaign with a 1-1 double-overtime draw against visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island (0-0-1) Sept. 2.
The Pioneers dominated the run of play early, putting together an 8-1 shot advantage by halftime. Freshman back
Darcy Perez (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) had the most dangerous chance, driving a ball from deep on the right touchine that came off the crossbar. The WP back line also did well to snuff out several opportunities on long passes sent up to speedy Golden Eagle forward Kristin Carroll.
Junior midfielder
Sidney Gabrich (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) nearly broke the scoreless tie 10 minutes into the second period when her shot skipped off the dew-soaked grass, but the St. Joseph's-Long Island keeper and defender were able to keep it from crossing the line.
The Golden Eagles broke through at the 62:21 mark when senior Chelsea Bellini played a ball high from the left endline and sophomore Claire Brady finished at the far post.
Rivell provided the equalizer 11 minutes later, drilling a shot from 25 yards deep on the left wing to just inside the right post.
Senior
Kat Clint (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) was not forced to make a save for the Pioneers, and senior Katie McGarrell finished with seven stops for St. Joseph's-Long Island as WP finished with a 19-3 shot edge.
William Paterson will play at Suffolk Saturday, Sept. 5, at 1:45 p.m.
