Video Highlights WAYNE, N.J. – A goal early in the first overtime period sunk the William Paterson women's soccer team (2-2-1) against visiting FDU-Florham (3-2), 1-0, Sept. 12.
Following a 40-minute lightning delay with 9:13 remaining in regulation, the two teams were still scoreless after finishing the second half and were forced to play the extra session. The Devils were awarded an early free kick just outside of the box on the left flank, and sophomore Justine Fernandez lofted a ball to the right side of the six. Classmate Marissa Salava was able to finish to that side of the frame for the game winner 2:48 into overtime.
Senior
Kat Clint (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) collected four saves for the Pioneers, and junior Annie George had two FDU-Florham stops.
The Pioneers had the best scoring opportunity of regulation, coming up with a quality chance 20 minutes into the contest. Junior midfielder
Sidney Gabrich (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) right-footed an
Adrianna Oliveira (Union, N.J./Union) corner kick from the middle of the box towards the far post, but a Devil defender was able to keep it from crossing the goal line.
William Paterson will visit Wilkes Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 4:00 p.m.
