POMONA, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team's (2-2) comeback attempt fell just short, suffering a 2-1 loss to Mary Washington (5-0) in the first round of the Stockton Seashore Classic Sept. 11.
Junior Jacob Burke handed the Eagles a 2-0 lead with a pair of unassisted goals at the 26:13 and 28:43 marks.
Junior midfielder
Musa Sackoon (North Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) headed in a pass from classmate
Tyler Burd (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) with 8:14 to play, but despite a 9-2 shot advantage during the second half, the Pioneers couldn't come up with the equalizer.
Freshman
Mike Villegas (Bergenfield, N.J./Pascack Valley) played the full 90:00 for WP in goal without making a save, and sophomore Matt Spencer collected two stops for Mary Washington.
William Paterson will face RPI Saturday, Sept. 12, at 3:00 p.m. in the second round of the Stockton Seashore Classic.
