The Pioneers will play at top-seeded Kean (27-11-1) Sunday, May 10, at 12:00 p.m. If WP wins and hands the Cougars their first loss of the double-elimination tournament, a final contest will be played Sunday at 2:30 p.m. to determine the regional champion.
Sophomore right fielder
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) opened the contest with a base hit to center field and senior center fielder
Kelsey Principe (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) dropped down a sacrifice bunt before sophomore designated player
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) singled to center to leave runners on the corners. Sophomore shortstop
Rachel Wasilak's (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) grounder to the second baseman was enough to plate
Nicole Fryer and hand WP a 1-0 first-inning edge.
Junior right fielder Chyanne Gilliam knotted the score at 1-1 with her home run over the center-field fence in the bottom of the second.
WP seized control with a three-run fourth inning. Junior left fielder
Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) hit a two-out single to short and stole second, followed by a base hit to right field from freshman second baseman
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial). Poretti swiped second base, and sophomore pitcher
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) helped her own cause with a run-scoring base hit up the middle. Sophomore catcher
Kim Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) then blooped a ball down the right-field line and it was ruled a fair ball just beyond the bag at first, allowing Poretti and Castelli to both touch the plate and make it a 4-1 contest.
A five-run seventh inning broke the game open for the Pioneers.
Nicole Fryer and Principe both posted one-out singles and Stanton walked to load the bases for Wasilak, who knocked in two runs with her base hit into left-center field. Senior third baseman
Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) was issued a base on balls to again load the bases, and Wimmershoff emptied them with a triple to right center.
Wimmershoff was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored, and Wasilak went 2-for-4, drove in three runs and scored once herself.
