CLERMONT, FLA. – The No. 22 William Paterson softball team (2-0) opened its 2015 campaign with a 1-0 victory against Plattsburgh State (0-1) and a 3-1 win against Hope (1-2) March 14 at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
Game OneSenior
Kerrin Dys (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) drove in the game's lone run and picked up the victory inside the circle during a 1-0 decision against Plattsburgh State.
Senior second baseman
Christina Austin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) hit a two-out single to center field during the bottom of the fourth inning, and Dys plated her with a base hit to right center.

Rachel Wasilak (Livingston, N.J./Livingston), senior first baseman
Melissa Swain (West Berlin, N.J./Paul VI) and senior catcher
Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) accounted for the Pioneers' five hits.
Dys (1-0) scattered two hits over 5.0 innings, striking out five and walking one. Sophomore
Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) struck out five of the six batters she faced to earn her first career save.
Kristin Fisher took the loss (0-1) for the Cardinals, surrendering five hits and one walk while posting eight strikeouts.
Game TwoSenior designated player
Keanna Ross (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help lead William Paterson to a 3-1 win against Hope.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard with a run in the third. Sophomore right fielder
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) reached base on a one-out error and moved to second on a single through the right side by freshman shortstop
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial). A fielder's choice resulted in Fryer being out at third, but sophomore catcher
Kim Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) walked to load the bases for Ross, who delivered Poretti home with a base hit through the left side of the infield.
WP added two more runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore pitcher
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) had a leadoff single and senior center fielder
Kelsey Principe (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) hit a one-out base hit through the left side.
Nicole Fryer knocked a single up the middle, loading the bases. Following a strikeout, Wasilak singled in Castelli and Principe touched home thanks to an error on the play, making it a 3-0 margin.
Hope scored its only run during the home half of the sixth, using a fielder's choice, walk and single to center.
Nicole Fryer was 2-for-4 at the plate. Castelli (1-0) pitched the complete game, allowing four hits and one run, striking out seven and walking two.
Junior Autumn Anderson was 2-for-2 for Hope. Freshman Katie Singer took the loss (1-1) as the starter, giving up one unearned run and four hits in 3.0 innings, posting a walk and a strikeout.
William Paterson will take on Ripon at 3:00 p.m. and Macalester at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 15.
