CLERMONT, FLA. – The No. 22 William Paterson softball team (4-0) defeated Ripon (0-2), 8-0, and Macalester (4-1), 5-0, March 15 at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
Game OneThe Pioneers quickly built a 4-0 lead en route to an 8-0 victory against Ripon.
WP struck twice during the top of the first inning. Sophomore right fielder
Nicole Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) had a leadoff walk and stole second before sophomore pitcher
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) singled to left and sophomore third baseman
Rachel Wasilak (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) plated both with a base hit up the middle.
Junior left fielder
Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) started the second with a home run to left-center field for a 3-0 margin, and
Nicole Fryer reached base via a hit by pitch and later touched home thanks to a wild pitch.
Senior catcher
Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) and Wimmershoff were both issued bases on balls to open the fifth inning, and Stanton picked up two RBI with her single to left center. Wasilak tripled in Stanton for a 7-0 score.
The Pioneers tacked on a run in the seventh as Stanton and Wasilak came up with one-out singles and sophomore designated player
Kim Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) drove in Stanton with a base hit up the middle.
Wasilak was 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, while Stanton finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Senior first baseman
Melissa Swain (West Berlin, N.J./Paul VI) posted a pair of hits, including a double.
Stanton (1-0) scattered six hits during the complete-game shutout, striking out six and walking two.
Senior first baseman Ashley Gnacinski was 2-for-3 at the plate for Ripon. Sophomore starter Ashley Parkkonen took the loss (0-1), allowing four runs (three earned) and three hits in 2.0 innings, issuing four walks.
Game TwoWilliam Paterson finished the day by handing Macalester its first loss of the season, 5-0.
WP posted a four-run bottom of the first inning.
Nicole Fryer hit a leadoff double and was sacrificed to third by freshman shortstop
Kaitlyn Poretti (Florence, N.J./Florence Memorial). Wasilak drove her in with a base hit up the middle, followed by a single from senior designated player
Kristen Gardner (Audubon, N.J./Methacton).
Kim Fryer's triple plated both runners, and she later touched home via an RBI-single from senior second baseman
Christina Austin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.).
The Pioneers added one more run in the sixth.

Nicole Fryer was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Wasilak went 2-for-3 and drove in a run and scored once.
Kim Fryer contributed three RBI.
Sophomore
Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) tossed the complete-game shutout (1-0), striking out four and walking one while giving up just two hits.
Starter Miranda Stokes suffered the loss (2-1), giving up six hits and four runs in 1.0 inning.
William Paterson will take on Hamilton at 3:00 p.m. and Utica at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16.
