MADISON, N.J. – Senior forward
James McLane (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) was named the Most Valuable Player as the William Paterson men's basketball team (2-0) defeated host Drew (1-1), 70-62, in the Rose City Classic championship game Nov. 15.
McLane was 8-for-14 (.571) from the field for 21 points, adding a career-best 13 rebounds. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior guard
Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep), who had six boards and game highs of 23 tallies and three blocked shots.
After building a 31-26 halftime advantage, the Pioneers led by as many as 17 (50-33, 13:53) during the second half. WP shot 42.4 (28-66) percent from the field while holding the Rangers to a .281 (16-57) effort, and dominated by a 36-10 count on points in the paint.
Junior guard
Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) made four of his eight field goals for 10 points, and junior guard
Joseph Taylor (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) added eight tallies.
Sophomore guard Yonathan Napoleon led Drew with 16 points and three assists, while junior guard Joey Feinberg and freshman forward Brian Oehme each posted 11 tallies.
William Paterson will play its home opener Wednesday, Nov. 18, against Lehman at 7:30 p.m.
