WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (1-8) dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to visiting Staten Island (7-3) Oct. 8.

Junior Brittany LaBruna (Bloomingdale, N.J./Continental Academy) registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles against junior Nozima Toshpulatova, and sophomore Sam Uribe (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory at fifth singles against sophomore Jonaldy Edouard. Senior Jesenia Fernandez (Passaic, N.J./Passaic) earned a 6-1, 6-2 sixth-singles win against freshman Guetanie Romain.

Fernandez and freshman Jessica Papin-Yukhtanova (Newton, N.J./Newton) contributed an 8-1 third-doubles victory against Edourad and Romain.

William Paterson will compete in the NJAIAW Tournament Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 10-11, at Drew University.
