UNION, N.J. – Sophomore forward
Carly Satter (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) provided the go-ahead goal and junior midfielder
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) came up with a big save late as the William Paterson field hockey team (6-4, 1-0 NJAC) started conference play with a 2-1 victory at Kean (10-2, 0-1 NJAC) Oct. 3.
Junior midfielder
Elizabeth Kerr (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 10th minute, connecting after a give-and-go with senior midfielder
Felicia Wetzel (Point Pleasant, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) during a penalty corner.
The Cougars answered eight minutes later as sophomore Krista LaMaina knocked in a rebound off a corner.
Satter pushed the Pioneers ahead by a 2-1 count at the 22:23 mark, getting in behind the goalie all alone following a broken play in front of the cage. Junior midfielder
Samantha Monzo (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) was credited with the assist.
Senior goalie
Meg Davies (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) finished with two saves, and Stanton provided a key defensive save to preserve the one-goal lead with seven minutes remaining. Kean senior Katie DiCarlo and freshman Erin Smith did not make a stop.
William Paterson will visit Ramapo Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 4:00 p.m.
