NEWARK, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (15-12, 2-6 NJAC) rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat host Rutgers-Newark (11-15, 1-7 NJAC), 3-2, Oct. 27.
The Pioneers dropped the first two sets 25-21 and 25-15, but fought back with 25-21 and 25-12 victories to even the match. WP jumped out to an 8-1 advantage in the fifth and held on for a decisive 15-10 win.
Junior outside hitter
Erin Roach (Clark, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) posted 21 kills and 23 digs, and senior opposite hitter
Nicole Spicer (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) tallied 17 kills and 23 digs. Freshman setter
Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) finished with 50 assists and 19 digs, while senior libero
Michelle Merida (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) collected 18 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Jess Moy led the Scarlet Raiders with 17 kills, sophomore setter Nathalie Breining had 50 assists and sophomore libero Sue Riley collected 27 digs.
William Paterson will celebrate Senior Night and finish its season Thursday, Oct. 29, against Staten Island at 7:00 p.m.
