Video Highlights WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (4-8-2, 1-5-1 NJAC) scored two goals late, but its comeback bid fell short against visiting Stockton (13-3-1, 5-1-1 NJAC), 3-2, Oct. 19.
The Ospreys twice scored off corner kicks, the first in the 15th minute when junior forward Anthony Colofranson headed in senior midfielder Ian Carmelia's effort at the far post, and the second in the 57th minute when junior back Tyler Mills knocked in senior midfielder Bobby Spracklin's kick.
Sophomore back James Kayal found sophomore forward Chimaobi Ikwuagwu in the middle of the field, and he turned his defender and fired for a 3-0 Stockton advantage at the 83:41 mark.
The Pioneers were awarded a penalty kick with 3:22 remaining and sophomore midfielder
JP Gonzales (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) buried it to get WP on to the scoreboard.
Freshman forward
Josh Sommerer (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) beat a defender and finished into the bottom-left corner of the frame, making it a 3-2 margin with 43 seconds to play, but the Pioneers could not come up with the equalizer during the closing moments.
Senior
Nico Martirano (Madison, N.J./Madison) had two saves for WP, and senior Bobby Varga posted three stops for Stockton.
William Paterson will play at St. Joseph's-Long Island Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
