Volleyball Defeats CCNY, Falls to King's

Pioneers Split Pair of Contests at Tri-Match

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The William Paterson volleyball team (10-10) defeated host CCNY (4-8), 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 contest to King's, Pa. (16-6) Oct. 10.
 
The Pioneers notched a 25-7, 25-11, 25-10 victory against the host Beavers. Senior opposite hitter Nicole Spicer (Whiting, N.J./Manchester Twp.) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, and junior outside hitter Erin Roach (Clark, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) contributed 10 kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 27 assists, while senior libero Michelle Merida (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) led the team with 13 digs.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Angela Ubanwa led CCNY with five kills, and sophomore setter Magd Zamzam finished with four assists and six digs.
 
After winning the first set, 25-14, WP lost the next three to King's, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-23. Roach posted 14 kills and 18 digs, Caruso collected 35 assists and Spicer had 10 kills and 15 digs. Senior middle hitter Issel Garcia (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) tallied 10 kills, Merida finished with 22 digs and freshman outside hitter Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) posted 12 digs.
 
Freshman outside hitter Rachel Miller had 18 kills and 16 digs for King's. Freshman setter Maddie Kumm dished 40 assists and freshman opposite hitter Brenna Smudde collected 22 digs.
 
William Paterson will visit Sarah Lawrence Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m.
