WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (20-6, 8-2 NJAC) split a doubleheader with Richard Stockton (16-8, 5-5 NJAC) April 12, earning a 4-1 victory in game one but falling 2-0 in game two.

Game One
The Pioneers scored three runs during the bottom of the fourth inning on their way to defeating the Ospreys 4-1 in the first game.

After senior shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and freshman catcher Kim Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) reached on errors, sophomore left fielder Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead after four innings.

The Ospreys got on the board in the sixth, stringing together three hits to bring the score to 3-1.

The Pioneers got that run back in the bottom of the frame when Fryer doubled to center, advanced to second on a Wimmershoff sacrifice bunt and scored on a single up the middle from junior designated player Kristen Gardner (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) to give the Pioneers a 4-1 advantage.

Freshman Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) surrendered a single in seventh but secured the victory for WP.

Wimmershoff and Gardner each collected two hits for the Pioneers. Podmajersky (5-3) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four in the complete-game effort.

Samantha Shockey picked up a hit and an RBI for Stockton. Michelle Pietrocola (9-4) took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Game Two
The Ospreys scored runs in the second and the seventh to defeat WP, 2-0, in game two.

Stockton got on the board in the top of the second on a leadoff hit-by-pitch, a single and an RBI ground out to take a 1-0 lead.

They threatened again in the fourth and fifth innings, but freshman Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) worked out of the jams to keep it a one-run game.

A hit-by-pitch, a sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle plated another run for Stockton during the sixth and brought the score to 2-0.

Miele went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Pioneers. Casetlli (8-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four batters.

Nicole Tomo collected two hits and an RBI for the Ospreys. Brittany Ksiezopolski (7-4) earned the win, giving up five hits and picking up five strikeouts in the complete-game shutout.

William Paterson will travel to Kean for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15, at 3:00 p.m.
