Once again, WP scored during the first inning, loading the bases with no outs. The Blue Devils were able to get the next two batters out, but Castelli singled to center field and gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Swain singled to center, and junior third baseman
Kim Reitmeyer (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) reached on an error. After both runners advanced on stolen bases, Fryer sent a two-run single to left. Principe followed with a base hit to right field, and Miele plated Fryer with a sacrifice fly to extend the Pioneer lead to 5-0.
Fredonia cut the lead to 5-2 during the top of the fourth when Cherise Gunnell hit a two-run triple to left-center field.
An error, double from Miele, passed ball and a
Kim Fryer (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) sacrifice fly gave the Pioneers a 7-2 lead after four frames.
WP added one more run during the fifth when
Kristen Gardner (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) delivered a pinch-hit single to drive in Castelli and make the score 8-2.
