Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FLA. – William Paterson head coach Hallie Cohen earned her 700th career victory as the softball team (2-0) began its 2014 season with two victories in the NTC Spring Games March 15. The Pioneers defeated Otterbein (1-1), 8-0 in five innings, and Washington & Jefferson (0-2), 1-0.

Game One
Sophomore outfielder Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) drove in two runs and junior pitcher Kerrin Dys (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) allowed just three hits as WP rolled to an 8-0 victory against Otterbein.

The Pioneers got off to a quick start, scoring four runs during the bottom of the first. After back-to-back singles from junior outfielder Kelsey Principe (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) and senior shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII), junior second baseman Christina Austin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) doubled to give the WP a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers plated two more runs on two Otterbein errors, and Wimmershoff drove in senior designated player Danielle Capozzi (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 4-0.

In the bottom of the third, Capozzi singled and scored after a Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) base hit and a Cardinal error to give the Pioneers a 5-0 lead. With two outs, Wimmershoff blasted an RBI-double to left center and scored on a Laura Henriquez (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) bunt single and an error, making it 7-0 after three innings.

An Austin sacrifice fly scored Principe during the bottom of the fourth to give the Pioneers an 8-0 advantage.

Principe went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and a stolen base for the Pioneers. Dys (1-0) earned the victory in the season opener.

Otterbein collected three hits from three different players, and senior Kelsey Long (0-1) took the loss for the Cardinals.

Game Two
Freshman pitcher Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) tossed a complete-game shutout and struck out six batters in her collegiate debut as WP defeated Washington & Jefferson, 1-0.

The two teams exchanged zeros for the first five frames until the Pioneers got onto the board during the top of the sixth. With two outs, Principe tripled to left-center field and came home on a Miele single to the pitcher to score the only run of the game.

Principe collected two hits, and Podmajersky (1-0) got the win for the Pioneers.
