Men’s Basketball Can’t Get Past No. 25 Stockton in NJAC Final

Pioneers Suffer 65-44 Defeat

Junior Jaques Conceicao tied for the game high with 11 rebounds in the NJAC Tournament championship game.
Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. – Second-seeded William Paterson (21-6, 14-4 NJAC) couldn't get past host No. 25 Richard Stockton (23-4, 15-3 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Basketball Tournament championship game, 65-44, March 1.

Senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck), the NJAC Player of the Year, led the Pioneers with 15 points while adding eight rebounds. Junior guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) finished with 11 tallies and a team-best 11 boards, and freshman guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) had nine points off the bench.

Neither team could get much going offensively during the first half, but thanks to Stockton's 29.0 (9-31) percent shooting WP was still within striking distance at 29-23 at the break. However, when William Paterson made it a four-point game at 35-31 thanks to Conceicao's two free throws with 14:56 remaining, the Ospreys responded with a 19-0 run, making six of their 12 field-goal attempts during the stretch to pull ahead by a 54-31 count with 6:19 left to play.

Josh Blamon paced top-seeded Stockton with 17 points, Nnamdi Usuwa posted 12 tallies and 10 rebounds, and Rameel Johnson added nine points to his 11 boards.

Richard Stockton owned a 53-29 rebounding advantage, including a 24-6 edge on the offensive glass that led to a 26-6 second-chance points margin. The 44 points were the fewest for the Pioneers in more than five years (51-43 vs. Rutgers-Newark, Feb. 11, 2009).

William Paterson will now await the announcement of the 2014 NCAA Tournament field Monday, March 3, at 12:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
