King-Gilchrist Named NJAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year

Burgos a Second-Team All-Conference Selection

Senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist was named the NJAC Player of the Year after averaging 19.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson senior guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) was named the 2013-14 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year, earning a spot on the All-NJAC First Team, and junior guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) was a second-team all-league selection, the league office announced Feb. 26.

King-Gilchrist is averaging 19.4 points (second in league), 6.5 rebounds (ninth in NJAC) and a team-high 4.8 assists (second in conference, 44th in Division III) and 3.0 steals (first in league, sixth nationally) while starting all 25 contests this season. A first-year Pioneer after transferring from Angelo State, he also is fourth in assist/turnover ratio (1.4), fifth in three-point field-goal percentage (.406, 28-69) and defensive rebounds (5.6 rpg), and eighth in free-throw percentage (.760, 136-179) in the NJAC statistics, and has produced 23 double-digit scoring efforts (12 20+, two 30+), five double-figure rebounding totals and five double-doubles.

Burgos leads the NJAC with 19.9 points per game (43rd nationally), adding 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists while starting all 25 contests. Also second in free-throw percentage (.875, 133-152) and three-pointers made (2.5 pg) and seventh in three-point field-goal percentage (.401, 63-157) in the league statistics, he has compiled 23 double-digit scoring efforts (12 20+, four 30+, one 40+). In 32 career games as a two-year Pioneer (25 starts), Burgos is averaging 17.3 points while registering 24 double-digit scoring totals (12 20+, four 30+, one 40+).

Second-seeded William Paterson (20-5, 14-4 NJAC) will host third-seeded Rutgers-Newark Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the NJAC Tournament semifinal round at 7:00 p.m.
