Men’s Basketball to Host Rutgers-Newark in NJAC Tournament Semifinal Wednesday

Second-Seed Pioneers to Play Third-Seeded Scarlet Raiders Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m.

WAYNE, N.J. -- Second-seeded William Paterson (20-5, 14-4 NJAC) will host third-seeded Rutgers-Newark (19-7, 14-4 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7:00 p.m. Live statistics and WP Radio's live broadcast will be available.

General Admission is $5.00. Students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00. The first 150 William Paterson students with ID will be admitted to games at the Rec Center for free, courtesy of the Student Government Association, Residence Life and Division of Student Development.

The winner will advance to the NJAC Tournament championship game Saturday, March 1, at the site of the highest remaining seed. In the other semifinal Feb. 26, top-seeded Richard Stockton (21-4, 15-2 NJAC) will host fourth-seeded Kean (14-12, 9-9 NJAC) at 7:30 p.m.

The Pioneers are coming off an 81-61 victory at Ramapo Feb. 19. Earlier this season, William Paterson lost at Rutgers-Newark, 64-62, on Dec. 7, and defeated the Scarlet Raiders, 74-50, at home Feb. 6.

Junior 6-2 guard Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) leads the conference with 19.9 points per game, while senior 6-2 guard Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) has collected 19.4 tallies (second in league), 6.5 rebounds and a team-high 4.8 assists (second in conference) and 3.0 steals (first in NJAC) per contest. Junior 6-3 guard Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) is posting 10.8 points per game while rating sixth in the league with 8.0 rebounds per contest, and sophomore 6-4 guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) is adding 10.4 tallies per game.

William Paterson will be looking to win its 12th NJAC Tournament title (1972, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2012).
