Football Drops 38-14 Decision at Morrisville State

Pioneers Led by Allen’s 15 Tackles

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The William Paterson football team (3-5, 1-4 NJAC) dropped a 38-14 decision at Morrisville State (7-2, 5-1 NJAC) Nov. 1.
 
The Mustangs jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead thanks to touchdown runs by junior running back Cristian Pena (seven yards) and senior quarterback Lemar Johnson (one yard).
 
Junior linebacker Malcolm Todd (Dover, N.J./Dover) forced a fumble of a punt return and senior defensive back Elijah DeGuzman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) recovered midway through the second quarter, setting the Pioneers up inside the Mustang 10-yard line. Three players later, junior wide receiver Anthony DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./Suffern) broke the goal line with a two-yard carry, and senior Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) drilled home the extra point for a 14-7 score with 6:32 remaining in the first half.
 
Morrisville State answered with a 16-play, 78-yard scoring drive, capped by Johnson's eight-yard carry for a 21-7 margin with 1:10 on the clock. Following a WP punt, a 50-yard pass play allowed Mustang senior Zach Drake to kick a 26-yard field goal as time expired and make it a 24-7 halftime score.
 
Freshman running back Darrel West found the end zone from 27 yards out to hand the Mustangs a 31-7 edge six minutes into the second half.
 
Junior running back Darius Kersey (Dover, N.J./Dover) picked up 10 yards on a third-and-six to move the chains, and on fourth-and-seven freshman quarterback Austin Fellows (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) connected with junior wide receiver Nick Burke (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) for a 10-yard touchdown and a 31-14 margin with 2:50 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Pena finished the Morrisville State scoring with a seven-yard carry less than four minutes into the fourth quarter.
 
Fellows finished 17-for-32 for 139 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while junior running back Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) carried 11 times for 39 yards and caught four passes for 51 yards. DiMarsico hauled in six passes for 51 yards.
 
Senior linebacker Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) led all players with 15 tackles (10 solo, 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sack) while forcing a fumble. DeGuzman made 12 stops and recovered a fumble, and freshman linebacker Joe Hernandez (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) and junior defensive back Tom Hennessy (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) each posted eight tackles.
 
Johnson was 11-for-20 for 134 yards under center, and rushed 22 times for 158 yards and two scores for Morrisville State. Pena gained 148 yards and scored twice on 23 rushing attempts, and senior wide receiver Josh Powell caught eight passes for 106 yards. Junior linebacker Colton Evans and junior defensive lineman Julian Serrano each tallied seven tackles.
 
William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 8, at home against Cortland at 12:00 p.m.
