NEWARK, N.J. – William Paterson (4-7-3, 1-5 NJAC) rallied to tie the score, but a late goal lifted host Rutgers-Newark (10-5-1, 3-3 NJAC) to a 3-2 women's soccer victory Oct. 15.
Paige Lazar handed the Scarlet Raiders a 1-0 edge in the 13th minute when she received a Sara Corson cross from the right side of the box and put the ball into the right side of the net.
Lazar struck again, this time at the 20:17 mark, with a one-timer over the keeper's head off an assist by Haley Savva.
Junior midfielder
Gina Cowdrick (Island Heights, N.J./Central Regional) scored her fifth goal of the season, knocking in a rebound off the keeper after a free kick by freshman back
Adrianna Oliveira (Union, N.J./Union) in the 43rd minute.
Sophomore back
Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) knotted the score at 2-2 when she headed in Oliveira's corner kick at the 53:00 mark.
Rutgers-Newark netted the game winner in the 82nd minute as Lazar sent a through ball up the left side and Corson dribbled and fired to the right side of the frame.
Freshman
Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made two saves for WP, and Veronika Tueros posted four stops for the Scarlet Raiders.
William Paterson will host Rowan on Family Weekend Saturday, Oct. 18, at 6:00 p.m.
