Box Score GLASSBORO, N.J. – William Paterson (2-3, 0-2 NJAC) suffered a 33-14 football loss at Rowan (3-2, 2-0 NJAC) Oct. 11.
After a 50-yard return of the opening kickoff, the Profs got on the scoreboard with a nine-yard pass by junior quarterback Billy McCarty to junior wide receiver Todd Guiillaume. Freshman Tyler Knighton kicked the extra point for a 7-0 score 2:54 into the contest.
Knighton kicked a 42-yard field goal to make it a 10-0 margin with 10:47 remaining in the second quarter, and junior Withler Marcelin ripped off a 92-yard scoring run for a 17-0 lead four minutes into the second half. A blocked punt set up a Knighton 29-yarder four minutes later.
The Pioneers answered with a 59-yard touchdown pass by freshman quarterback
Austin Fellows (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) to junior wide receiver
Anthony DiMarsico (Stony Point, N.Y./Suffern). Senior
Robert Sinegra's (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) PAT made it a 20-7 game with 4:57 on the clock in the third.
McCarty found junior wide receiver Russ Forchion for an 11-yard score (27-7, 13:13, fourth), and an interception led to a Knighton 27-yard field goal three minutes later.
Knighton found the mark again, this time from 23 yards out, to push Rowan ahead by a 33-7 count with 5:39 to play.
Fellows connected with junior running back
Darius Kersey (Dover, N.J./Dover) for a 68-yard touchdown to finish the scoring with 4:39 left.
Fellows was 16-for-26 for 266 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Junior running back
Matt Deiana (Somers, N.Y./Somers) rushed 15 times for 61 yards, and Kersey caught four passes for 108 yards and a score.
Senior linebacker
Ben Allen (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) and junior linebacker
Carlo Caponetta (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) each made eight tackles for WP. Senior defensive lineman
Pat Thomas (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) finished with seven stops (1.0 TFL).
McCarty was 13-for-19 for 129 yards and two scores for Rowan. Marcelin carried 17 times for 168 yards and a touchdown, and he caught four passes for 49 yards.
Senior linebacker Tyler Jenkins led all players with 11 tackles (seven solo, 3.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks). Graduate student defensive back Kurt Kingett had two of the Profs' three interceptions.
