Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. – Four Pioneers were in double figures in scoring as the William Paterson men's basketball team (12-3, 7-2 NJAC) defeated Rutgers-Camden (3-13, 1-8 NJAC), 83-60, Jan. 18.
The two teams exchanged baskets for most of the first half until a 7-0 run by the Pioneers gave them an eight point lead and brought the score to 30-22. The Scarlet Raptors countered with a 7-0 run of their own before senior guard
Javae King-Gilchrist (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) hit a three pointer with one second remaining to give WP a 33-29 lead at halftime.
Highlighted by a 12-0 offensive burst (53-37) at the 16:21 mark, the Pioneers never relinquished the lead in the second half. WP took advantage of 12 second-half turnovers, leading by as many as 25 points (83-58) with 2:43 left. King-Gilchrist, junior guard
Sandy Burgos (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) and sophomore guard
Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) each had double-digit scoring figures in the second half.
King-Gilchrist led all players with 25 points, adding five assists and three rebounds. Mensah contributed 17 tallies and seven boards, while Burgos registered 16 points and four assists. Junior guard
Jaques Conceicao (Massama-Lisboa, Portugal/Francais Charle Lepierre) added 14 tallies and eight rebounds.
WP shot 88.2 (15-17) percent from the free-throw line overall and scored 37 points off turnovers.
John Tatem contributed 22 points and eight rebounds and Teon Russell added 15 tallies for Rutgers-Camden.
William Paterson will host The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 8:00 p.m.
