WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (8-0) rallied from a 2-1 deficit for a 3-2 victory against visiting St. Joseph's-Long Island (5-6) Sept. 17 at the Rec Center.

Neither team led by more than four during a first set that the Golden Eagles won, 25-22. The Pioneers ripped off the final six points to take the second, 25-18, before St. Joseph's-Long Island came out with a hard-fought, fourth-set 25-23 victory. WP bounced back with a 25-18 win to force a fifth set, and opened up a quick 8-2 advantage. When the Golden Eagles cut that lead to two at 10-8, the Pioneers scored the final five points, the last a service ace from freshman outside hitter Mary Long (Morristown, N.J./Morristown), for a 15-8 closing win.

Junior middle hitter Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) led William Paterson with 13 kills, adding seven digs, three service aces and four blocks (one solo). Junior setter Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) tallied 40 assists, nine digs and three aces, while freshman outside hitter Erin Roach (Clark, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) added eight kills to her team-best 16 digs. Long chipped in 12 kills, 11 digs and three block solos.

St. Joseph's-Long Island sophomore Heather Ferchland led all players with 24 kills, junior Julianne Tierney posted 55 assists and freshman Courtney Wickline had 23 digs.

William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Thursday, Sept. 19, hosting New Jersey City at 7:00 p.m.
