Miele, Mulderig Earn All-NJAC Softball Honors

Miele Selected to All-First Team; Mulderig All-Second Team

PITMAN, N.J. – William Paterson junior shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII) earned a spot on the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Softball All-First Team and senior outfielder Samantha Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) was a second-team honoree, the league office announced May 2.

Miele, a three-time all-NJAC honoree (2011 and 2012 second teams), leads the Pioneers with a .350 average, 41 hits (tied-10th in league) and 27 RBI (seventh in conference), and is tied for the team lead with five triples (tied-first in NJAC).  A starter in all 39 games, she has recorded a .411 on-base percentage, .547 slugging percentage (eighth in league), 64 total bases (tied-fifth in conference), 21 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs and five stolen bases.  In 18 conference regular-season games, Miele compiled a .426 average, a .685 slugging percentage and a .475 on-base percentage, adding 24 RBI, 12 runs scored, four doubles, three triples, two home runs and three stolen bases.  She has started in all 119 career appearances as a three-year Pioneer, compiling a .358 average, 70 runs scored, 70 RBI, 27 doubles, seven triples, five home runs and 13 stolen bases.

Mulderig is batting .339, adding a team-high .429 on-base percentage (tied-10th in NJAC), .574 slugging percentage (second in league), 28 runs scored (tied-ninth in conference), 66 total bases (tied-third in NJAC), eight doubles, three home runs (tied-eighth in league) and nine stolen bases, and is tied for the team lead with five triples (tied-first in conference).  Starting in all 39 games, she also drove in 19 runs and drew 17 walks (tied-fifth in NJAC).  Against NJAC foes, Mulderig recorded a .364 average, a .426 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage, adding 14 runs scored, seven RBI, four doubles, three triples, one home run and five stolen bases.  A transfer from Moravian College, she has started all 77 career appearances in her two years with the Pioneers, compiling a .326 average, 50 runs scored, 31 RBI, 12 doubles, six triples, six home runs and 14 stolen bases.

Fifth-seeded William Paterson (19-20, 10-8 NJAC) will play sixth-seeded Kean Friday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Rowan in an elimination game of the NJAC Tournament.
