JERSEY CITY, N.J. – William Paterson improved to 10-14 overall and 4-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play, earning a pair of five-inning victories at New Jersey City (10-15, 0-8 NJAC), 11-0 and 10-0, April 9.  Junior shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII) went a combined 4-for-5 with a double, grand slam, eight RBI and three runs scored.

GAME ONE
The Pioneers needed just six hits to push across 11 runs, and freshman Chelsea Batelli (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) tossed a one-hitter, as WP began the day with an 11-0 victory.

William Paterson seized control right away with a four-run first.  Freshman designated player Lachelle Rouse (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior) singled in a run, senior outfielder Samantha Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) crossed the plate on a fielder's choice and sophomore outfielder Kelsey Principe (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) drove in two with a triple to right-center field.

Miele doubled in Christina Austin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) and Erika Tucker (Cream Ridge, N.J./New Egypt) for a 6-0 count during the top of the second, and a bases-loaded walk by Mulderig and a Miele grand slam over the center-field fence handed WP an 11-0 edge in the fourth.

Miele finished 2-for-2 with a double, grand slam and six RBI, and Principe was 2-for-3 with a two-run triple.  Batelli (5-6) struck out six and did not issue a walk while allowing one hit during 5.0 innings inside the circle.

Rebecca Satz accounted for the Gothic Knights' one hit.  Ashley O'Beirne fell to 10-13, surrendering all 11 runs (eight earned) and six hits, walking five and striking out three.

GAME TWO
The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the middle of the second and cruised to a 10-0 win during the night cap.

Miele singled in Austin and Mulderig, then advanced to third on an error and scored thanks to a wild pitch, giving WP a quick 3-0 edge during the top of the first inning.

Mulderig hit a two-run home run to left-center field during the Pioneer second, and freshman catcher Liz DeVenio's (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) base hit to center was enough to drive in Miele and Austin and make it a 7-0 margin.

William Paterson took advantage of a Nicole Walls (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) double and two fielder's choices to push across a fourth-inning run, and Walls drove in two more with her fifth-inning base hit through the right side.

Walls was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Mulderig finished 2-for-3 and hit a two-run homer, and Miele was 2-for-3 and added a pair of RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Kelsey Hand (Mountainville, N.Y./Cornwall Central) pitched a complete-game three-hitter to improve to 3-3, striking out two Gothic Knights and walking one.

Casey Perez led NJCU at the plate, finishing 2-for-3.  O'Beirne again took the loss (10-14), giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits.

William Paterson will host Staten Island Thursday, April 11, at 3:00 p.m.
