Softball to Face Kean in NJAC Tournament Friday

Fifth-Seeded Pioneers to Play Sixth-Seeded Cougars in Elimination Game at 11:00 a.m.

PITMAN, N.J. – Fifth-seeded William Paterson (19-20, 10-8 NJAC) will play sixth-seeded Kean (24-16-1, 10-8 NJAC) in an elimination game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Softball Tournament Friday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Rowan in Glassboro, N.J. Live statistics will be available.

General Admission is $5.00. Students, children 12 and under, and senior citizens will be admitted for $2.00.

The Pioneers are coming off a 4-2 loss at second-seeded and top-ranked Montclair State (38-3, 15-3 NJAC) April 30 in the first round, while the Cougars lost at top-seeded Rowan (36-5, 16-2 NJAC), 3-1.

Rowan will host the remainder of the tournament Friday-Sunday, May 3-5.  The Profs will take on fourth-seeded Richard Stockton (30-10, 11-7 NJAC) at 1:00 p.m. and MSU will play third-seeded The College of New Jersey (26-11, 12-6 NJAC) at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.  The full pairings and game times for Saturday will be determined after the conclusion of Friday's play, although the WP/Kean winner will definitely play at 12:00 p.m.

William Paterson is looking to win its fifth NJAC Tournament title (1999, 2003, 2005, 2009).  Earlier this season, the Pioneers split a home doubleheader against the Cougars, 1-0 and 7-9, on April 16.

Junior shortstop Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII), a first-team all-region and second-team all-conference pick a year ago, leads WP with a .350 batting average and 27 RBI (seventh in conference), is tied for the team lead with five triples (tied-first in league) and has seven doubles, a .411 on-base percentage, .547 slugging percentage (eighth in NJAC) and 21 runs scored.  Senior outfielder Samantha Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) owns a .339 average, five triples (tied-first in conference), three home runs, 19 RBI and a team-best eight doubles, .674 slugging percentage (second in league), 28 runs scored (tied-ninth in NJAC) and nine stolen bases.  Sophomore outfielder Kelsey Principe (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) is hitting .323 with 14 runs scored.

Freshman Chelsea Batelli (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) is 8-7 with a 2.54 ERA and a save in 16 starts (17 appearances).  Senior Kelsey Hand (Mountainville, N.Y./Cornwall Central) is 6-4 with a 2.62 ERA in 15 appearances (nine starts), while sophomore Kerrin Dys (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) owns a 5-9 record and a 2.68 ERA in 14 starts and 17 appearances, and is hitting .326 in 46 at-bats.

William Paterson was 30-12 overall and 12-6 in league play last season, qualifying for the 2012 NJAC Tournament.
