CLERMONT, FLA. – William Paterson (1-3) suffered a 7-1 loss to Trinity (2-1) and an 11-3 loss to Bowdoin (5-2) at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., March 17.
GAME ONE
The Bantams scored three runs in the first and never looked back, as Trinity defeated the Pioneers, 7-1.
A pair of singles and a walk set up a two-run double and an RBI single to give Trinity an early 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers threatened in the fourth, when
Laura Henriquez (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) and
Samantha Mulderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) reached on errors, but Hannah King was able to get the next three batters out.
Trinity scored two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to increase its lead.
WP got on the board in the seventh inning, as freshman
Kelsey Wimmershoff (Park Ridge, N.J./Park Ridge) scored on a pinch hit single from sophomore
Keanna Ross (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook Senior).
King struck out two Pioneers on her way to earning the win for the Bantams. Freshman
Chelsea Batelli (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) (0-1) took the loss.
GAME TWO
Bowdoin scored two runs in the third inning, five in the fourth and three in the fifth on its way to defeating WP 11-3 in five innings.
All three of the Pioneers' runs came with two outs in the fifth inning. Junior shortstop
Katelyn Miele (Flanders, N.J./Pope John XXIII) was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a single from sophomore second baseman
Christina Austin (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.). Miele scored on a single from Mulderig, who advanced to second on the throw home. Austin and Mulderig then scored on a throwing error by the third baseman, scoring the Pioneers' second and third runs of the game.
Miele also contributed a hit for William Paterson. Julia Geaumont paced Bowdoin with two hits and five RBI.
Tricia Thibodeau earned the win for the Polar Bears, striking out two in 5.0 innings.
Kelsey Hand (Mountainville, N.Y./Cornwall Central) (1-1) took the loss, striking out one.
Kerrin Dys (North Arlington, N.J. / North Arlington) pitched 0.1 inning of relief.
William Paterson will face Amherst and Dubuque at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m., respectively, on Tuesday, March 19.
