WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (3-4, 1-2 NJAC) got back on track and registered its first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory with an 81-71 triumph against visiting Richard Stockton (1-4, 0-3 NJAC) Dec. 4.
With just two of its traditional starters on the floor, the Pioneers got off to a sluggish start, trailing 10-7 5:05 into the contest. But, once it put its regulars together, WP ripped off 13 unanswered points to jump out to a 20-10 advantage with 11:52 remaining. Leading by as many as 21 (45-24, 0:56), the Pioneers carried a 45-30 edge into the locker room, despite posting a better percentage from the field (18-40, .450) than the free-throw line (6-15, .400), and allowing the Ospreys to score nearly half their points from the charity stripe (12-17, .706).
William Paterson's lead did not dip into single digits until the final two minutes, but when Stockton began to foul in an effort to get the ball back the Pioneers made eight of 10 (.800) free throws to put the game away.
