EWING, N.J. – William Paterson (12-5, 6-3 NJAC) finished off the season sweep, knocking off second-place The College of New Jersey (11-6, 6-3 NJAC) by a 59-45 score in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball action Jan. 16.
The Pioneers, who had defeated the Lions 63-51 on Nov. 20 in Wayne, now are in a four-way tie with TCNJ, Ramapo and Rutgers-Newark in the league standings.
WP wasted no time, jumping out to a 17-2 lead less than six minutes into the contest behind five points apiece from senior
Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and juniors
Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) and
Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill). William Paterson limited the Lions to 7-for-31 (.226) shooting during the first half while compiling a 48.4 (15-31) field-goal percentage of its own and carried a 39-19 advantage into the locker room.
That margin stayed in the 20s for most of the second half, as the final 14-point spread was the closest The College of New Jersey was during the final 25:51 of the contest.
Borova led all scorers with 16 points, adding three assists, while junior forward
Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) had 12 tallies and three blocked shots. She tied with sophomore forward
Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) for game-high rebounding honors with nine apiece. Callander hit all four of her field-goal attempts, including three three-pointers, for 11 points.
Liz West led TCNJ with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Tiffany DeTulio had 11 points.
