Pioneers Defeat Mount Saint Vincent, Suffer First Loss of Year in Five-Setter Against Cedar Crest

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (6-1) battled back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Mount Saint Vincent (2-2) in five sets (25-21, 16-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-8), but suffered its volleyball defeat of the year in a five-setter against Cedar Crest (4-3), 17-25, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20, 7-15, during a tri-match Sept. 8.  In the other match, Cedar Crest defeated Mount Saint Vincent 25-19, 25-15, 25-17.

Against the Dolphins, junior outside hitter Amanda Morales (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) helped to spark the comeback with match bests of 24 digs and six service aces.  Sophomore setter Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) tallied 13 assists and nine digs, and sophomore outside hitter Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) paced WP with nine kills while serving four aces.  Senior setter Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) contributed 13 assists and 10 digs, and senior libero Alyssa Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) had 11 digs.

Freshman Zana Daluz had 45 assists and 20 digs to lead Mount Saint Vincent.  Freshman middle hitter Ashleigh Scozzari collected 16 kills.

Woegens led the Pioneers with 14 kills and 19 digs against the Falcons.  Sophomore middle hitter Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) had 10 kills, Dykhouse dished out 19 assists, and Danielle Koukos posted 10 assists and seven digs.  Sophomore libero Katelyn Malloy (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) contributed 15 digs, and junior middle hitter Erika Masso (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) chipped in 10 digs and five kills.

Rebecca Grady paced Cedar Crest with 18 kills, Nikole Johnson collected 27 digs, and Debra Lobien had 44 assists and 12 digs.

William Paterson will host Centenary Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 7:00 p.m.
