PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – William Paterson (10-4) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Pioneers could not close out host St. Joseph-Long Island (6-3) as the Golden Eagles rallied for a five-set volleyball victory Sept. 25.
WP opened the match with 25-21, 25-21 victories, but SJ-LI rallied to tie the score with 27-25, 25-21 wins. The Golden Eagles finished out the night with a 15-13 fifth-set triumph.
Sophomore outside hitter
Taylor Woegens (Bogota, N.J./Bogota) had a double-double with 10 digs and a team-best 12 kills. Junior middle hitter
Erika Masso (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) tallied 11 kills, sophomore libero
Katelyn Malloy (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) collected 30 digs, and senior setter
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) registered 24 assists and 17 digs. Junior outside hitter
Amanda Morales (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) contributed 23 digs, while sophomore setter
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) chipped in 18 assists and nine digs.
Melissa Garbaldi led the Eagles with 16 kills, Julianne Tierney posted 53 assists and Ashley Larrea finished with 32 digs.
William Paterson will visit St. Joseph's-Long Island Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
