Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 34-17 loss to Montclair State (2-2, 2-0 NJAC) Sept. 22.
Junior
Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) is 35-for-61 for 318 yards, two touchdowns and an interception under center.
Senior tailback
Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington), a first-team all-conference honoree a year ago, has carried 53 times for 216 yards and has also caught eight passes (37 yards). Sophomore running back
Isaac Jlaka (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) has eight rushes for 48 yards.
Junior wide receiver
Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) leads the Pioneers with 10 receptions, 132 yards and two touchdown catches. Classmate
Howard Davis (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin) has caught seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Leading the defense is sophomore linebacker
John Garbowski (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland), who has collected 36 tackles (nine solo, 3.0 TFL, 1.0 sack). He was an honorable-mention all-NJAC pick a year ago and currently rates second in the league with 12.0 tackles/game. Senior bandit
German Decena (Union City, N.J./Emerson) owns 25 tackles (eight solo), ranking ninth in the NJAC with 8.3 stops/game, and senior linebacker
Clifton Glaze (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) has 24 tackles. Senior cornerback

Wallace Cooper (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) has recorded the Pioneers' lone interception.
William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and eight defensive starters from a 2011 team that finished 4-6 overall and 3-6 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back 54 letterwinners and five all-conference selections, were predicted to finish sixth in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Scouting the Privateers
Maritime is 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) after a 35-16 loss at Castleton State (2-2, 1-0 ECFC) Sept. 22. Under the direction of head coach Clayton Kendrick-Holmes, the Privateers were selected to finish second in the 2012 ECFC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Junior quarterback Tyler Trodden is 24-for-49 for 334 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions under center and leads the Privateers on the ground with 201 yards on 42 attempts and a score.
Junior fullback Gary Bigham has 31 carries for 109 yards and a team-high three touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Eric Heedles leads Maritime with 11 catches for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker Keith Barnes, a member of the preseason Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) North Defense First Team, leads the Privateers with 47 tackles (27 solo, 3.5 TFL) and 1.0 sack. Senior linebacker Pat Lasher has collected 34 stops (19 solo, 5.0 TFL), adding a forced fumble, while sophomore linebacker Duke Alvora has added 30 tackles (17 solo, 1.5 TFL). Alvora has averaged 45.6 yards per punt, and freshman Diogo Dietrich is 6-for-7 on PATs and 0-for-1 on field goals. Fritz Jean is averaging 22.3 yards per kickoff return.
Maritime was 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the ECFC last fall.
