NEWARK, N.J. – After dropping the first two sets, the William Paterson volleyball team (11-1, 2-0 NJAC) rallied to win the last three for a 3-2 victory at Rutgers-Newark (1-12, 0-3 NJAC) Sept. 22.
The Scarlet Raiders took the early advantage, winning 25-22 and 25-17, before the Pioneers battled back for 25-15 and 25-20 victories. William Paterson finished things off with a 21-19 win in the fifth set.
Senior outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) led WP with 13 kills, adding 10 digs. Junior
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) tallied 22 assists and 14 digs, senior outside hitter
Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) posted 11 kills and 16 digs, and freshman setter
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) contributed 15 assists. Freshman opposite hitter
Michelle Guzman (Paterson, N.J./Mary Help of Christians) collected 14 digs, and freshman middle hitter
Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) added nine kills and six digs.
Stephanie Touzan led Rutgers-Newark with 18 kills, Jen Mendoza dished 38 assists and Toni Moppert added 13 digs.
William Paterson will play at Richard Stockton Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:00 p.m.
