WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman setter
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) posted nine service aces and 11 assists as the William Paterson volleyball team (10-1) cruised past Purchase (3-4) for a 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 victory Sept. 20 at the Rec Center.
Trailing 4-5 in the first set, Koukos served five straight aces to get the Pioneers on track, and after clinging to a 16-13 lead, WP was able to pull away for the opening-set win. William Paterson jumped out to a 10-2 advantage to start the second set and held off a late Panther rally that closed the gap to three (17-14), and the Pioneers blew open an 8-6 edge to secure the final set.
Junior
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) contributed 13 assists and six digs, while senior outside hitter
Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) had 11 kills. Senior outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) posted eight digs and five kills, and freshman middle hitter
Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) chipped in five kills and two block assists.
Senior Lindsay Froman paced Purchase with nine kills. Sophomore Lindsay Navagh had 19 assists, and senior Mickaela Olson collected 15 digs.
William Paterson will play at Rutgers-Newark Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
