Men's Basketball Loses at No. 22 Ramapo

Pioneers Suffer 62-49 Defeat against Roadrunners

MAHWAH, N.J. – William Paterson (12-12, 4-8 NJAC) got within one early in the second half, but No. 22 Ramapo (19-5, 10-2 NJAC) pulled away for a 62-49 men's basketball victory Feb. 14.

Junior guard Joey Castro (West Paterson, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) led the Pioneers with 15 points and five assists, senior Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) had 12 tallies, and classmate Shaun Canty (Carlstadt, N.J./Paramus Catholic) collected a game-best 14 rebounds.

William Paterson scored six of the game's first eight points, but Ramapo scored the last five of the half and took a 25-20 lead into the intermission. Back-to-back field goals by senior Nick Allan (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) and Canty to open the second stanza made it a 25-24 score. However, LaQuan Peterkin started a 12-0 Ramapo run with a jumper as the Roadrunners built a 37-24 lead with 14:31 to play.

Will Sanborn had 12 points and four assists, Ahmad Hassan contributed 11 tallies, and Peterkin posted 10 points for Ramapo. Demetrius Boards added six points to his team-high 10 rebounds.

William Paterson will finish its season Wednesday, Feb. 16, hosting Ramapo on Senior Night at 8:00 p.m.
