William Paterson is 3-6 overall and 2-6 in the NJAC after a 45-0 home loss against No. 17 Kean (8-1, 7-1 NJAC) Nov. 5.
Freshman quarterback
Joe Salame (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) is 25-for-53 for 312 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions in five games under center. Senior
Joe Muraglia, Jr. (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) is 3-for-5 for 24 yards and has carried 26 times for 88 yards (3.4 yards/attempt).
Junior tailback
Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) has rushed 149 times for 787 yards (5.3 yards/carry) and five touchdowns, and has caught five passes for 66 yards and two scores. He ranks third in the league in rushing (87.4 yards/game). Freshman
Daryl Shuler (Peekskill, N.Y./White Plains) has picked up 167 yards on 37 carries (4.5 yards/attempt) while scoring once.
Sophomore
Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) has 13 receptions for 265 yards (20.4 yards/catch) and three touchdowns. Muraglia has caught 14 passes for 185 yards, and is fifth in the league in punt return average (5.8 yards/return).
Senior linebacker
Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional), a member of the 2009 All-NJAC Honorable Mention Team, leads WP and is third in the conference with 9.7 tackles per game (87 total, 29 solo, 7.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks). Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) has collected 70 tackles (33 solo), an interception and 2.5 sacks. He is fifth in the NJAC in tackles for a loss (1.28 per game, 11.5 total) and tied for ninth in tackles (7.8 per game).
Senior defensive lineman
Damian DiIorio (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) is tied for second in the league in tackles for a loss (1.56 per game; 14.0 total), third in sacks (0.67 per game; 6.0 total) and tied for fourth in fumbles forced (three, 0.33 per game) while adding 69 tackles (25 solo), breaking up two passes and returning one of his two recovered fumbles for a touchdown. Clifton Glaze (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) has made 61 stops (23 solo, 6.5 TFL).
Sophomore
Cory Mundt (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) is averaging 38.5 yards per punt (first in NJAC, 33rd in Division III), and freshman
Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls), the Oct. 2 and Oct. 30 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, is 14-for-14 on PATs and 3-for-5 on field goals.
William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and six defensive starters from a 2010 team that got off to its best start since 1992, going 4-1 before mounting injuries took their toll for a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back four all-conference selections, were predicted to finish seventh in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Scouting the Colonials
Western Connecticut is 0-9 overall and 0-8 in league play after a 47-10 loss at The College of New Jersey (6-3, 5-3 NJAC) Nov. 5. The Colonials were picked to finish 10th in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Freshman quarterback Will Arndt is 52-for-160 for 444 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions. Sophomore Dion Small has carried 174 times for 582 yards (3.3 yards/carry) and two touchdowns. He ranks eighth in the conference in rushing yards per game (64.7). Freshman David Plaza has caught 24 passes for 271 yards.
Sophomore linebacker Mike Lacaria leads the Colonials with 74 tackles (41 solo, 6.0 for loss; 9.2 tackles/game, fourth in NJAC), forcing three fumbles. Senior linebacker Greg Galasso has 70 stops (36 solo), an interception and a fumble forced and recovered, and sophomore linebacker Bill Birdsell has 68 tackles (36 solo).
Freshman Ryan Falaguerra is averaging 33.4 yards per punt (seventh in NJAC), freshman Brian Kelly is 1-for-1 on field-goal attempts and 8-for-8 on PATs, and senior Tim Schwietzer is 1-for-3 (.333) on field goals.
Western Connecticut was 0-10 overall and 0-9 in the NJAC last year.
