WAYNE, N.J. – In a tightly-contested New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) volleyball match, Rowan (8-6, 2-2 NJAC) overcame a 7-10 deficit to win the fifth set, 15-11, for a 3-2 victory at William Paterson (13-3, 2-2 NJAC) Oct. 4.
Down 20-23, the Pioneers earned the final five points for a 25-23 opening victory. The Profs rallied from a 4-9 score to win the second set, 25-18, but freshman setter
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) served the final six points for a 25-19 WP win in the third. Rowan jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the fourth before William Paterson closed it to within one (21-22 and 23-24), but Dakota Oeskovic's cross-court winner handed the Profs a 25-23 victory and tied the match at 2-2.
WP built a 10-7 edge in the fifth before Rowan battled back to knot the score at 11-11. Three straight poor sets by the Pioneers were enough to hand Rowan the win in the fifth set.
Senior outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) added 16 digs to her team-best 16 kills for William Paterson. Junior
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) posted 19 assists, nine kills and seven digs, and senior outside hitter
Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) contributed 10 kills and a team-high 25 digs. Junior libero
Michelle Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 22 digs, and Koukos finished with 16 assists and seven digs.
Sophomore Krissy Collins paced Rowan with 20 kills, classmate Lauren Ruffalo had 22 digs, and sophomore Kelsey Donovan contributed 27 assists and 10 digs for the Profs.
William Paterson will host Staten Island Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m.
