Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) reached the 1,000 career digs plateau as William Paterson (16-9) split a home volleyball tri-match Oct. 22. The Pioneers defeated Lehman (11-9), 3-0, before losing, 3-2, to Misericordia (11-12). In the day's third match, Misericordia defeated Lehman by a 3-0 score.
Against the Lightning, WP was a 25-19, 25-17, 25-16 winner. Senior
Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) led all Pioneers with 13 kills and 10 digs. Maher and freshman
Katelyn Malloy (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) chipped in five kills apiece. Junior setter
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) contributed 15 assists. Gerri-Ann Martin led Lehman with 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Jasmine Bermudez tallied 27 assists for the Lightning.
Entering the day's second match, Maher needed four digs for 1,000, and surpassed it by posting 17 digs, giving her 1,013 career digs. After dropping the first two sets to Misericordia 25-8 and 25-21, the Pioneers fought back in sets three and four, 25-21 and 25-22. WP dropped the fifth set by a score of 15-11. Runge led the Pioneers with 24 kills, adding 16 digs and three assists. Dykhouse recorded 18 assists and a solo block.
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) added 12 assists and three digs for William Paterson, and Malloy registered a team-leading 21 digs. Junior outside hitter Cailin McCullion led the Cougars with 23 kills and 21 digs. Kellyn Swanson recorded a team-high 25 digs, and senior middle hitter Krystal Burford posted 16 kills for Misericordia.
William Paterson will travel to Kean for a non-conference match Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
