WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (15-7) lost a see-saw battle against Mount Saint Mary (14-9) Oct. 18 in non-conference volleyball action at the Rec Center. The Knights won the opening set, 26-24, before the Pioneers answered with back-to-back 27-25 victories. MSMC evened things up with a 25-15 win in the fourth, and finished off the match with a 15-11 victory in the decisive fifth set.
The New Jersey Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, senior
Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) led all players with 22 kills, adding 27 digs. Senior outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) had 18 kills and 17 digs, junior libero
Michelle Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) posted a match-high 38 digs, and junior setter
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) had 30 assists and 12 digs. Freshman
Danielle Koukos (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) chipped in 14 assists and 22 digs, and classmate
Shauna VanDeRee (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) posted nine kills and seven digs.
Taylor Woegens led Mount Saint Mary with 21 kills, adding 18 digs. Lauren Halverson contributed 43 assists and 20 digs, Heather Schaeffer compiled 30 digs, and Teresa Sorrentino collected 18 kills and 16 digs.
William Paterson will host Montclair State Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7:00 p.m.
