Football Travels to Cortland Oct. 22

Pioneers to Take on Red Dragons at 1:00 p.m.

William Paterson (2-4, 1-4 NJAC) will finish a two-game road swing Saturday, Oct. 22, with a contest at Cortland (4-2, 4-2 NJAC).  Kickoff at SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex (6,500) will be at 1:00 p.m.  Live statistics will be available, and a live audio broadcast and Web stream will be provided by William Paterson's student radio station, 88.7 FM Brave New Radio.

Scouting the Pioneers 
William Paterson is 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the NJAC after a 20-0 loss at No. 7 Montclair State (6-0, 5-0 NJAC) Oct. 15.

Freshman quarterback Joe Salame (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) is 14-for-32 for 223 yards, two touchdowns and five interceptions in two games under center. 

Junior tailback Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) has rushed 121 times for 628 yards (5.2 yards/carry) and three touchdowns, and has caught four passes for 71 yards and two scores.  He ranks second in the league and 38th in Division III in rushing (104.7 yards/game), and third in the NJAC in all-purpose yardage (116.5 yards/game).  Freshman Daryl Shuler (Peekskill, N.Y./White Plains) has picked up 102 yards on 23 carries (4.4 yards/attempt) while scoring once, and is fifth in the conference in kickoff return average (21.0 yards/attempt).  

Sophomore Mick Paye (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) has 12 receptions for 256 yards (11.3 yards/catch) and three touchdowns.  Senior Joe Muraglia, Jr. (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) has caught 10 passes for 170 yards, and is fourth in the league in punt return average (6.6 yards/return). 

Senior linebacker Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional), a member of the 2009 All-NJAC Honorable Mention Team, leads WP and is second in the conference with 10.0 tackles per game (60 total, 22 solo, 4.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks).  The Sept. 4 and Sept. 25 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week as well as the 2008 Defensive NJAC Rookie of the Year and a three-time all-conference honoree, senior bandit Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) has collected 48 tackles (24 solo), an interception, 2.5 sacks.  He is tied for fifth in the NJAC in tackles for a loss (1.17 per game, 7.0 total) and tied for eighth in tackles (8.0 per game).

Junior linebacker Clifton Glaze (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) has made 47 stops (20 solo, 6.5 TFL).  Senior defensive lineman Damian DiIorio (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) is the NJAC's sacks co-leader (5.0; 0.83 per game, tied-35th nationally) and is tied for second in fumbles forced (three, 0.50 per game) and fourth in tackles for a loss (9.0 total; 1.50/game) while adding 43 tackles (22 solo), breaking up two passes and returning one of his two recovered fumbles for a touchdown. 

Sophomore Cory Mundt (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) is averaging 36.6 yards per punt (second in NJAC), and freshman Robert Sinegra (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls), the Oct. 2 NJAC Special Teams Player of the Week, is 11-for-11 on PATs and 2-for-3 on field goals.
 
William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and six defensive starters from a 2010 team that got off to its best start since 1992, going 4-1 before mounting injuries took their toll for a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in NJAC play.  The Pioneers, who welcomed back four all-conference selections, were predicted to finish seventh in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Cortland is 4-2 overall and 4-2 in league play after a 56-10 win against Western Connecticut (0-6, 0-5 NJAC) Oct. 15.  The Red Dragons were picked to finish second in the 2011 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.

Senior quarterback Dan Pitcher is 99-for-163 for 1,525 yards, 16 touchdowns and three interceptions.  He leads the league in pass efficiency (168.0) and second in passing (254.2 yards/game) and total offense (261.5 yards/game).  Senior Dorian Myles has carried 79 times for 415 yards (5.3 yards/carry) and three touchdowns.  He is fourth in the NJAC with 83.0 yards per game.  Freshman Bronson Greene has scored seven times, picking up 287 yards on 66 attempts (4.3 yards/carry).  Sophomore John Babin paces the conference in receptions (38, 6.3 per game) and yardage (703, 117.2 per game), scoring nine times.  He also is fifth in the NJAC in punt return average (6/3 yards/return).

Senior linebacker Bill Smith leads the Red Dragons with 37 tackles (13 solo, 3.5 for loss), adding a fumble forced and recovered.  Junior defensive back Steven Lenhart has 36 stops (21 solo, 3.5 TFL), and sophomore defensive lineman Joe Kirchner is tied for first in the league in sacks (5.0, 0.83 per game) and tied for second in fumbles forced (three, 0.50 per game), adding 22 tackles (14 solo, 6.0 for loss).

Junior Pete Furey is eighth in the NJAC in punting (34.3 yards/punt).  Senior Marc Corrado is 5-for-6 on field-goal attempts and 24-for-26 (.923) on PATs.

Cortland was 10-2 overall and 8-1 in the NJAC last year, reaching the second round of the NCAA Playoffs.
