WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (6-3, 3-3 NJAC) finished its fall season with an 8-1 victory against Staten Island (6-8) Oct. 16.
Junior
Christina Puleo (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) defeated Alena Vedeneeva at first singles, 6-2, 6-1, while sophomore
Samantha Miller (West Keansburg, N.J./Raritan) was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at second singles against Ilona Stoyko. Freshman
Jessica Daniels (Edison, N.J./Edison) won 6-1, 6-1 against Sophia Varriano at third singles, and sophomore
Mary Skretkowicz (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles against Demi-Jean Martorano. WP received a win at sixth singles by forfeit.
Puleo and Miller combined for an 8-1 win at first doubles against Vedeneeva and Stoyko. Daniels and Skretkowicz were 8-2 winners at second doubles against Martorano and Varriano. The Dolphins forfeited at third doubles.
The Pioneers' record this fall was the best for William Paterson since in re-instated tennis as an intercollegiate sport for the 2004 season (4-5, 2-4 NJAC).
