NEW YORK, N.Y. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (12-8) took an early lead but could not fend off host John Jay (8-13) as the Bloodhounds earned a 73-60 victory Jan. 31.
Senior guard
Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) led the Pioneers with 14 points, while classmate
Nick Allan (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) had 12 tallies and four assists, and junior
James Bryant (Spring Valley, N.Y./St. Patrick's) scored 10 points. Junior
Robert Whetham (North Haledon, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) pulled down a team-best five rebounds.
Senior forward
Shaun Canty's (Carlstadt, N.J./Paramus Catholic) basket gave William Paterson a 14-10 lead less than eight minutes into the contest, but John Jay scored the next eight points, and the Bloodhounds finished the half with an 11-4 run to take a 35-28 halftime lead. John Jay came out firing to start the second period, quickly building a 22-point (54-32, 13:36) advantage.
Jerome Alexander led four Bloodhounds in double figures with 22 points. Isaiah Holman added 18 tallies to his five rebounds.
