Box Score

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Senior guard Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) poured in a game-high 24 points but it wasn't enough as William Paterson (11-7, 3-4 NJAC) suffered a 59-49 loss at New Jersey City (7-8, 2-4 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference North Division men's basketball contest Jan. 24.

Paul added a team-best seven rebounds, while sophomore Jevoy Whyte (Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) chipped in eight points for the Pioneers.

The Gothic Knights seized control early, opening up a 26-6 advantage with less than four minutes remaining in the first half. Trailing 28-15 at the break, Paul converted two consecutive baskets to trim that lead to single digits (28-19, 18:12), but NJCU put together a 13-4 spurt to go ahead by a 41-23 count with 13:20 remaining. William Paterson fell victim to a cold shooting night from the floor, making 14 of 49 attempts (.286) while turning the ball over 24 times.

Barrino Da'Shon scored 22 points to lead the Gothic Knights, and Josh Hosang had 11 tallies and 11 rebounds.

William Paterson will play at No. 20 Ramapo Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
