Men's Basketball Sees Eight-Game Win Streak Snapped

Pioneers Lose at Baruch, 85-81

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (11-5) saw its eight-game win streak come to an end with an 85-81 loss at Baruch (9-8) on Jan. 17.

Senior guard Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) paced the Pioneers with 18 points, adding five rebounds, while classmate Nick Allan (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) had 17 tallies and six assists. Junior guard Joey Castro (West Paterson, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) added eight points to his team-best six rebounds, and junior James Bryant (Spring Valley, N.Y./St. Patrick's) chipped in 11 points.

The Bearcats led wire-to-wire, going up by as many as 15 (35-20, 5:37) before taking a 41-37 lead into the locker room. William Paterson scored the first basket of the second stanza to briefly make it a one-possession game (41-39, 19:06), but Baruch answered with a 15-2 run to open up a 16-point (61-45, 11:13) advantage and take control of the contest.

Tammer Farid led all players with 24 points, while Lionel Hilaire scored 20 for the Bearcats.

William Paterson will play at Rutgers-Camden Saturday, Jan. 22, at 1:00 p.m.
