Volleyball Starts NJAC Slate with Win at NJCU

Pioneers Roll Past Gothic Knights in Straight Sets

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – William Paterson (6-1, 1-0 NJAC) began its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) volleyball schedule with a straight-set victory at New Jersey City (2-4, 0-1 NJAC) Sept. 16. The Pioneers rolled past the Gothic Knights, 25-18, 25-16, 25-12.

Junior Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) added nine kills to her 14 assists, while senior Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 14 assists and eight digs. Junior Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) collected 13 kills, and sophomore Kelly Shaw (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) tallied eight kills and 15 digs. Senior Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) chipped in seven kills and nine digs, and sophomore Michelle Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) contributed nine digs.

Alex Johanesen led NJCU with 23 assists, Tabitha Jordan had nine kills, and Michelle Rayo posted 12 digs.

The Pioneers will compete it a tri-match at John Jay on Saturday, Sept. 18. William Paterson will take on the host Bloodhounds at 11:00 a.m. and Manhattanville at 1:00 p.m.
