Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 15-7 victory at The College of New Jersey (0-1, 0-1 NJAC) Sept. 3.

Sophomore Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) is 21-for-30 for 185 yards, one touchdown and an interception under center.

Sophomore tailback Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) has rushed 18 times for 106 yards (5.9 yards/carry) and a touchdown, while freshman Ray VanPeenen (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), a former walk-on at Rutgers, has 14 attempts for 40 yards, and has caught two passes for 24 yards.

Junior Joe Muraglia, Jr. (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) leads the Pioneers with seven catches (third in NJAC) and 70 yards, including a 14-yard score against TCNJ, while classmate Matt Reggio (Commack, N.Y./Commack) has four receptions for 59 yards.

The Sept. 5 Defensive Player of the Week as well as a 2009 honorable-mention all-NJAC honoree, senior linebacker Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) has a team-best 11 tackles (tied-fifth in league). A two-time second-team all-conference selection, senior defensive lineman Dyon Moore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) owns eight tackles (one solo, 1.5 for loss). Junior Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), the 2008 NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as a 2009 second-team all-conference pick, has seven tackles, as does sophomore safety German Decena (Union City, N.J./Emerson). Sophomore linebacker Jimmie Ray Ragland (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) has four stops (2.5 TFL, second in NJAC) and an interception.

William Paterson returned four offensive starters and eight defensive starters from a 2009 team that compiled a 5-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back five all-conference selections from a year ago, were predicted to finish fifth in the 2010 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll, and were the “dark horse” pick to win the title this fall.

Scouting King's
The Monarchs are 0-2 overall and 0-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) this fall following a 31-7 loss to Springfield (1-0) Sept. 3, and a 31-29 defeat at the hands of Bethany (1-1) Sept. 11.

Senior quarterback Corey Lavin is 21-for-51 for 323 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions (161.5 yards/game, second in MAC). Sophomore Eric Ofcharsky leads the King's ground game with 149 yards on 32 attempts (4.7 yards/rush), while classmate David Abdalla has caught seven passes for 220 yards (31.4 yards/catch; 110.0 yards/game, first in MAC) and three touchdowns.

Fellow sophomore linebacker Ryan Cordingly has tallied 14 tackles (seven solo, 2.0 for loss, 1.0 sack), a fumble forced and recovered, and junior defensive back Edwyn Edwards has added 13 stops (11 solo) and a pass breakup.
